Basic Information about the Species:
Southern Magnolia trees are well known in Florida. The flowers are scented and it is a heavy, hard wood. Sometimes the dried leaves are used in flower arrangements. The southern magnolia flower is also the state flower of Mississippi. This type of magnolia tree can grow 60 to 90 feet. It is widely adaptable to a variety of soils, and has few pest problems. With glossy evergreen foliage and large white fragrant blossoms it truly is the most handsome flower and durable native tree for our southern landscapes.
