Basic Information about the Species:
The blackberry has many long arching or trailing
(called canes)fruit is produce on two year old canes.The plant can reach up to 10 feet.
The canes are a dull green color and often have thorns;however,there are thornless
varieties.The blackberry leaves are arranged alternately along the stem with each leaf
consisting of three of five leaflets .The compound leaves are heavily tooth on the edges
somewhat prickley,and bright green colors.Blackberryand Rasberry plants may be
different to tell apart;however blackberry leaves are light green in color on the underside,while raspberry leaves
have a silvery undersides.
